Adam Spry (White Earth Anishinaabe) is a PhD Candidate in English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University. While at Yale he hopes to complete revisions on his dissertation, “Our War Paint is Writer’s Ink: Ojibwe Literary Transnationalism,” which examines the dialogical movement of literary works between Ojibwe and non-Native contexts in the U.S. between 1887 and the present. He is currently researching the re-appropriation of Longfellow’s The Song of Hiawatha by Ojibwe nationalists in the early twentieth century. He is the author of an essay on the literary translation of Ojibwe song, which appeared in The Poetry and Poetics of Gerald Vizenor.
