Museums and Indigeneity: Applications Open for 2018 NCAIS Summer Institute

April 6, 2018

YGSNA is accepting applications to send a graduate student to the 2018 Summer Institute of the Newberry Consortium in American Indian and Indigenous Studies (“NCAIS”). The Institute will be hosted by the Peabody Museum of Archeology and Ethnology at Harvard University, one of the world’s premier anthropology museums.

The Institute will use the Peabody Museum as a case study and instructional tool to consider the connections between museums and indigenous histories, cultures, and identities. Participants will have the opportunity to work with the Peabody’s extensive collections for training purposes as well as independent archival research.

The 2018 Summer Institute will take place from July 9th to July 28th in Cambridge, MA, and will be immediately followed by the NCAIS Graduate Student Conference. Free housing will be provided for all Institute participants, as well as a $500 stipend and up to $600 in travel reimbursement.

Interested parties should contact Professor Ned Blackhawk by April 30th for more information about the application process. Further information can be found in the below flyer.
